Match Review: Ghana 6-1 Egypt~World Cup Play Offs First Leg

Today was such a bad day for the Pharaohs, as they had their asses mercilessly whooped by the Black Stars.
The match began with an early chance for the Black Stars to score, but Asamoah Gyan feeble effort was thwarted by keeper Ekrami. Early pressure mounted on the Egyptians showed that Ghanaians were fully ready to win the game.

5 minute into the match, Ghana took the lead when goal-thirsty Asamoah Gyan fired a wide unopposed shot past keeper Ekrami into the net.
The whole of Kumasi was engulfed with shouts of joy.

Black Stars early goal threw the Egyptians into utter confusion, they were unable to play fluent football as their defence line was full of stuttering and blunders.
An own goal was scored by Wael Gomaa of Egypt, who was bamboozled by the Essien's prowess.

35 minute on, Naguib wasted Egypt's first scoring chance, with his header from point blank range that went agonizingly high over the bar.

It wasn't too long when Egypt's Salah earned a penalty kick that was converted to a goal by Egypt's veteran playmaker Abou-Treika. The visitors joy was immediately cut of when Waris headed home a diagonal free kick which gave Ghana their two-goal lead some minutes close to the half time.

Ghana's fourth goal came around 52nd minute in the second half, when Gyan headed from close range into Egypt's goal.

The Black Stars earned a penalty kick in the 71 minutes of the second half, which was scored by Muntari
Ghana substitute Atsu scored the last goal in the dying minutes, giving the Black Stars a clear 6-1 win over Egypt.

The Pharaohs are already in Kumasi as they are already preparing to lock horns with the Black stars in their first leg World Cup qualifier that will kick off tomorrow Tuesday 15th October, by 4 Pm.

Ghana's Black Stars have been on the ascendancy ever since they qualified for their first World Cup in 2006 and would be looking to make it a habit of honouring the World’s prestigious football tournament when they face Egypt.


The Black Stars are looking forward to securing their third consecutive World Cup participation. Many Ghanaian very optimistic that their team will defeat the visiting Egyptians.
But their optimism maybe mere wishful thinking, judging by the fact that Egypt has a wonderful record so far in their World Cup campaigns, with six wins out of six games.
Also having failed to qualify for the World Cup 2010, and the last two AFCON tournaments, the Pharaohs are fully back to secure a ticket to Brazil by all means. With Walid, and Abou-Treika up front, Egyptians will have little or nothing to worry about.

The Black Stars also have had an impressive run in the group stage of the qualifications. They accumulated a total of 15 from a possible 18 points with the only loss away at Ndola to 2012 African Champions Zambia. Ghana have had good runs in the World Cup featuring in 2006 in Germany and 2010 in South Africa, where they were Africa’s best and last contingent from the continent to be eliminated. They nearly registered a record as the first African country to enter the semi-finals with an Asamoah Gyan spot kick away, but it was missed.

Cameroon goalkeeper Charles Itandje was the man of the match as he made several sparkling saves to help his side force a goalless draw away in Tunisia on Sunday in the first leg of their World Cup play-off.

Emmanuel Emenike scored twice for Nigeria to move a step closer to the 2014 World Cup after a 2-1 win in Ethiopia on Saturday.

A spirited Ethiopia took the lead after 57 minutes through Behailu Asefa, when his cross from the left was wrongly judged by goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama and the Cameroonian referee ruled it a goal.


But the Eagles fought back and drew level through the individual brilliance of Emenike when he took on the entire Ethiopia defence before he fired past the goalkeeper.

This isn't gonna be a work over for Nigeria, as some Nigerians think. Nigeria needs to work hard to achieve victory. Underrating these guys may bring disastrous consequences for the Eagles.
The Walya Antelopes are a very courageous team bonded together by team spirit. They are known for one-twos style of play, mostly at the midfield. Mikel Obi and whoever is going to be at the midfield must keep a close eye on these two guys: Saint George, and Menyahel Teshome.
