Google Smartwatch Set To Hit The Market Soon

You've heard, seen, and probably owned a Sony or Samsung Smartwatch, well, that was not just enough. Google smartwatch is on the way. It'll soon be available in the market
According to the Wall Street Journal, their sources who have inside information on Google’s hardware plans have revealed that the firm is in the final stages of producing its very first smartwatch. The anonymous sources have apparently claimed that the smartwatch is nearly ready for mass production and could soon be available on the mass market.
In mid-October a report said that Google’s smartwatch would be coming “sooner rather than later” and had been codenamed Gem. Rumours had claimed that it could potentially be released at the same time as the Nexus 5 smartphone but if the Wall Street Journal’s sources are correct and production has not yet started, then it is unlikely that we’ll see them released together.

No doubt everyone is keen to see what Google will bring to the table.It is expected that it will make full use of Google Now, enabling users to keep up to date with appointments, calender entries, traffic and travel information, as well as weather reports and personal business information.

One obstacle of the smartwatch that Google are keen to overcome is the poor battery life. So far Pebble is leading the way due to the fact that it does not have a colour screen. The Wall Street Journal Sources claim that Google are working hard to extend the battery life of the Gem by reducing power consumption.

Why Nokia didn't sell its patents to Microsoft

Nokia may have sold its handset business to Microsoft Corp, but by hanging on to its valuable patent portfolio, the Finnish company could also get a big future payoff at the expense of Android phone makers.

Microsoft agreed on Tuesday to pay 3.79 billion euros ($5 billion) for Nokia's handset business and another 1.65 billion euros for a 10-year license for Nokia's patents,considered some of the highest-quality patents in the mobile market. "This involves the right to, in effect,make use of Nokia's inventions," Microsoft general counsel Brad Smith said on Tuesday. "It doesn't involve the transfer or ownership of the patents itself." Until now, Nokia has not widely licensed many of its patents, preferring instead to use them to protect its handset business against competitors, Nokia spokesman Mark Durrant said in an email to Reuters. "Once we no longer have our own mobile devices business, following the close of the (Microsoft) transaction, we would be able to explore licensing some of those technologies," he added. Once the world's dominant handset maker, Nokia has failed to close a huge lead opened up by Apple Inc and Samsung Electronics Co Ltd in the highly competitive market for smartphones. It will now concentrate on its networking equipment unit, navigation business and technology patents.

The Finnish company has long been a savvy player in the intellectual property market. It sued Apple in 2009 and then reached a licensing deal with the iPhone maker. The terms were not disclosed, but the deal was believed to be worth hundreds of millions of dollars to Nokia. For Microsoft, taking a license for Nokia's patents rather than buying them serves a strategic objective as well. Microsoft has already convinced about 20 Android manufacturers to pay patent royalties as part of its effort to raise the cost of Google Inc's mobile operating system. Now, Nokia remains free to go after the same Android manufacturers for royalties as well,although Nokia spokesman Durrant did not reveal specific targets. "It wouldn't surprise me at all to see litigation filed by Nokia in coming months," said one senior IP executive who has dealt with both companies, but did not want to be identified to maintain those relationships.

If my life depended on it, I still wouldn't be able to convince myself to go for the new Samsung phone, the Samsung Mega. To be honest, I didn't know about the phone till I chanced upon it at the mall a couple of weeks ago. It was so big that I just had to do a double take.
It has not been released in some parts of the world, but the Samsung Mega is already making waves in the US. At some point, Sprint and U.S. Cellular will also be offering the unit. If you've got hands the size of Hulk’s, then this phone might just be perfect for you. Aside from the size, though, there is another factor that makes the Samsung Mega interesting: the price. For AT&T at least, the price is a reasonable$149.99 – with the usual 2-year contract, naturally. There even is an installment option, which makes it $24 per month. Not bad at all, yeah? Vivo X3T is Worlds thinnest smartphone.

This, indeed is the worlds thinnest phone. Bellow are the specs:  

The specifications for this marvellous piece of kit are as follows:  5-inch FHD at 1080 x 1920 Resolution, MediaTek 1.5GHz Quad-Core Processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP Camera, 5MP FFC (Front Facing Camera), 143.27mm x 71.03mm x 5.75mm, weighing only 150 grams and running Android Jelly Bean 4.2

The war continues to drag on for who can build the slimmest smartphone, but at only 5.75mm, the BBK Vivo X3T is the hands down, winner for now.  Only the other day at 6.18mm, Huawei’s Ascend P6, was the thinnest ruling smartphone on the market. The next in line was the Alcatel One Touch Idol Ultra which comes in at 6.5mm.  We need to just remember though, with thinness, comes less room, coupled with that comes a smaller battery, which means, obviously, shorter battery cycles and increased recharges. There is no battery size specified, as yet on the BBK Vivo X3T, but Huawei’s Ascend P6 has only a 2000mAh battery, so we should be expecting that or even smaller in the Vivo X3T.

The amount of stories I have heard regarding a screen being broken, due to a person’s smartphone (Galaxy S3 comes to mind) being left in a pocket is unreal.  However, it doesn’t help the situation when manufacturers and developers make the devices even thinner, does it? I would be happy with a slightly bigger phone with a  larger battery to give increased battery life, not to mention a sturdier handset!  Small and think is great, but at what cost?
