Highlights Of Oron Carnival

We arrived on location on 24 December. The atmosphere was lively, full of excitement.
The stadium was well decorated with Christmas lights, and giant billboards all over the stadium. The event was officially flagged of by executive chairman of Oron, in the person of Hon. Orman Esin with a exhilarating praise session, followed by opening speech/prophetic declarations which threw the crowd of people that were present that night into confusion. With many saying " is Orman Esin one of the prophets?" because he addressed Oro nation not as their chairman, but as their clergy.

To listen to the chairman's speech click here to download and play. The opening speech/prophecy was rounded off with a Bible reading from the book of Isaiah. Carol songs by various choirs was the next item on the list, followed by music performances by upcoming musicians.

It was one unforgettable night. 25th night was the grand finale of choral competition, where the defending champions the Apostolic Church Eyo Oro reclaim the trophy, beating the runners up, Methodist Church Eyo Oro with 260 points. Immediately after the competition was music performances, and comedy show. The carnival continues till 31st December.

Nigeria Emerge 3 Times Champions Of Copa Lagos Beach Soccer

The Super Sand Eagles humiliate Senegal in the decider to clinch their trophy for the third consecutive time.

The Super Sand Eagles did it again! Nigeria reedited the Copa Lagos Beach Soccer once more, after bending Senegal in the last game of the competition, thus rounding some terrific records with three victories in three games.

A packed stadium and a terribly noisy atmosphere set up the background for another unforgettable afternoon for the Super Sand Eagles. Only the win would give Adamu's side a win, though, and playing against the kings of Africa, Senegal, this is something you need to fight really hard for. The game was played in a winner-takes-it-all fashion, as a win by Senegal would have given the gold to Diop's side.

As expected, that made for a terribly contested battle, only decided in the last stages of the game. Nigeria hit first, thanks to Badmus, but the Lions of Teranga found the way to the hosts' back of the net and leveled things back midway second period.

Last stage was set to be an fierce fight between two powerful contenders with one clear objective. Nigeria managed to impose their law in their homeland, though, and three hits in just three minutes finished the game. The tournament's MVP, Abu, unbalanced the score, just seconds before Tale and Emeka settled the 4-1. Senegal tried to react, but they could only beat the Nigerian resistance in one single occasion, thanks to fall.

The three minutes remaining were not enough for the African Qualifier defending champions, and the final whistled meant the third Copa Lagos in a row for Nigeria, something that sets something very clear: Adamu's lads know very well how to defend their territory...

Goals: 1-0: Badmus, min. 5 (1); 1-1: Koukpaki, min. 3 (2); 2-1: Abu, min. 10 (3); 3-1: Tale, min. 8 (3); 4-1: Emeka, min. 7 (3); 4-2: Fall, min. 3 (3)

Copa Lagos 2013: Nigeria Thrash Germany 7-1 In Beach Soccer

Germany 1-7 Nigeria

Nigeria’s Super Sand Eagles yesterday (Friday, 13 2013) kicked off the defence of their title in this year’s Copa Lagos Beach Soccer in style at the Eko Atlantic City, Lagos in the evening.

The Super Sand Eagles, who have won the first two editions of the Copa Lagos defeated former European Beach League champions, Germany 7-1 with three goals from
  • Abu Azeez, one each from
  • Ogbona Okemmiri, captain
  • Olawale Isiaka,
  • Ikechukwu Ibenegbu and
  • Ogbonna Emeka.

This will be the first time the Germany will take part in the Copa Lagos sponsored by FCMB Plc and Eko Atlantic. The Germans, who exhibited a combination of power and flair on the beach of the Eko Atlantic City, could not match the fire power of Nigeria’s Beach Eagle who proved too strong for them.

Meanwhile, Senegal who had been crowned champions of Africa three times in 2008, 2011 and 2013 were earlier in the afternoon defeated in the opening march by Lebanon 5-4.

Lebanon were making their second consecutive appearance at the Copa Lagos which they almost won last year in the final.

Head coach of the Nigerian team, Audu Adamu expressed his satisfaction with the performance of his team, saying “I am very happy and satisfied with the way the boys performed today, they really carried out the instructions and the training we had before this tournament was not in vain. We didn’t know the Germans before this match. I want to believe that they knew us and they really prepared for us. We’re looking forward to the next game, as you can see, there are no smaller team anymore. The Lebanese team defeated Senegal who were the former Africa champions. These Lebanese team almost defeated us last year. So, we have to prepare ourselves if we really want to defend the title.”

Breaking News! Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela Dies At 95

The legendary Nelson Mandela was and is one of Africa's/world most influential man.
South Africa's first black president and anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela has died, South Africa's president says.
Mr Mandela, 95, led South Africa's transition from white-minority rule in the 1990s, after 27 years in prison.
He had been receiving intense home-based medical care for a lung infection after three months in hospital.
In a statement on South African national TV, Mr Zuma said Mr Mandela had "departed" and was at peace.

"Our nation has lost its greatest son," Mr Zuma said.
The Nobel Peace Prize laureate was one of the world's most revered statesmen after preaching reconciliation despite being imprisoned for 27 years.
He had rarely been seen in public since officially retiring in 2004.
"What made Nelson Mandela great was precisely what made him human. We saw in him what we seek in ourselves," Mr Zuma said.
"Fellow South Africans, Nelson Mandela brought us together and it is together that we will bid him farewell."
UK Prime Minister David Cameron paid tribute to Mr Mandela, saying "a great light has gone out in the world".
Earlier, the BBC's Mike Wooldridge, outside Mr Mandela's home in the Johannesburg suburb of Houghton, said there appeared to have been an unusually large family gathering.
Among those attending was family elder Bantu Holomisa,
A number of government vehicles were there during the evening as well, our correspondent says.
Since he was released from hospital, the South African presidency repeatedly described Mr Mandela's condition as critical but stable.
Born in 1918, Nelson Mandela joined the African National Congress (ANC) in 1943, as a law student.
He and other ANC leaders campaigned against apartheid (white-only rule).
He was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1964, but was released in 1990 as South Africa began to move away from strict racial segregation.
He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993 and was elected South Africa's first black president in 1994. He stepped down after five years in office.
After leaving office, he became South Africa's highest-profile ambassador, campaigning against HIV/Aids and helping to secure his country's right to host the 2010 football World Cup.

On the occasion of Mandela's demise, below are some remarks by some world leaders.
David Cameron@David_Cameron
A great light has gone out in the world. Nelson Mandela was a hero of our time. I've asked for the flag at No10 to be flown at half mast.

Bill Gates@BillGates
Every time Melinda and I met Nelson Mandela, we left more inspired than ever. His grace and courage changed the world. This is a sad day.

 President Jacob Zuma
"Fellow South Africans, our beloved Nelson Rohlihla Mandela, the founding president of our democratic nation, has departed. ... Our people have lost a father. Although we knew this day was going to come, nothing can diminish our sense of a profound and enduring loss. His tireless struggle for freedom earned him the respect of the world. His humility, passion and humanity, earned him their love."
FIFA president Sepp Blatter
"It is in deep mourning that I pay my respects to an extraordinary person, probably one of the greatest humanists of our time and a dear friend of mine: Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela," said the Swiss. When he was honoured and cheered by the crowd at Johannesburg's Soccer City stadium on 11 July 2010, it was as a man of the people, a man of their hearts, and it was one of the most moving moments I have ever experienced."

UN Secretary-General B. Moon.
"I am profoundly saddened by the passing of Nelson Mandela. Nelson Mandela was a giant for justice and a down-to-earth human inspiration. Many around the world were greatly influenced by his selfless struggle for human dignity, equality and freedom. He touched our lives in deeply personal ways."
